Slingplayer for Fire TV Frequently Asked Questions

Slingplayer for Fire TV offers yet another way to watch your TV anywhere ... in this case, anywhere that you have an Amazon Fire TV streaming player connected to your TV!

What is Slingplayer for Fire TV?

Slingplayer for Fire TV is an app that lets you connect to your Slingbox via any TV that has an Amazon Fire TV device connected to it.

How does it work?

It's easy! Here's how:

  1. Connect your Amazon Fire TV or Amazon Fire TV Stick device to your TV’s HDMI port, and set it up as its instructions specify.
  2. Download the Slingplayer for Fire TV app to your Fire TV device.
  3. Using your Amazon Fire TV remote control, scroll to Apps. Select the Slingplayer for Fire TV app to launch it.
  4. Sign into your Sling Account.
  5. Use the Directory to connect to your Slingbox.
  6. Enjoy watching your programs … no matter where your TV is!
How do I access the Slingplayer onscreen controls?

Press the Menu button on the Amazon Fire TV remote control to reveal the onscreen controls. Use the Amazon Fire TV remote’s 4-way navigation control to manipulate the onscreen controls.

Which Slingbox models are supported?

The supported Slingbox models are the Slingbox 500, Slingbox M1/M2, and the Slingbox 350.

Which Amazon Fire TV models are supported?

Both the Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV Stick are supported.

Can I use my Amazon Fire TV remote control to change channels?

You can use the Up and Down buttons on the Amazon Fire TV remote control to change channels up and down.

How do I see what’s on? Is there an onscreen guide?

It's even easier than that! Just use the onscreen guide that comes with your set-top box … just like you would if you were sitting in front of your TV.

Can I access my DVR?

Absolutely. You can watch or do anything that you could do if you were sitting in front of your TV using your actual remote control.

I've used Slingplayer versions for other streaming players, and I had to use my smartphone or tablet to initiate streaming from the Slingbox. Does Slingplayer for Fire TV work this way? Do I even need a smartphone or tablet?

No, with Slingplayer for Fire TV you use the physical remote to initiate streaming from your Slingbox 500, Slingbox M1/M2, or Slingbox 350.

Sometimes the video going to the TV via the Amazon Fire TV stops, or doesn't look very good. Why might that be happening?

For the best video quality, make sure that your Amazon Fire TV player has a good Wi-Fi signal available. (For the best possible signal, if possible, use an ethernet cable to connect your network to the Amazon Fire TV’s ethernet port.) Anytime the Wi-Fi signal isn't so good, performance may suffer.

Also, you can bring up the app menu and manually switch the picture quality higher or lower.
