Can I use SlingPlayer for iPhone or iPod touch on the iPad?

SlingPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch can work on the iPad in a special compatibility mode, just like other non-iPad optimized apps. But for the best experience, iPad owners should use SlingPlayer for iPad.

With a Slingbox at home and SlingPlayer on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, you can watch live or recorded TV over a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connection. Although it's best to take advantage of the iPad's huge screen and stunning resolution with SlingPlayer for iPad, what if you already own SlingPlayer for iPhone or iPod touch? Well, there are three things to note:

  • SlingPlayer for iPad is a different product than SlingPlayer for iPhone or iPod touch. It takes full advantage of the high-resolution display and screen space that the iPad offers.

  • The current version of SlingPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch can work on an iPad in native mode, or in Compatibility Mode (2X) to fill the screen (although with less clarity).

  • All iPad models are supported, except the iPad 1. SlingPlayer for iPad version 3.x requires iOS 7, but the iPad 1 only supports iOS 5.1.1 or lower. However, if you purchased SlingPlayer 2.x prior to November 18, 2013, you still have access to it in the App Store.

So how can I use my SlingPlayer for iPhone with my iPad?:

  • If you have already purchased the iPhone version of SlingPlayer, you can sync the application to your iPad using iTunes, or just use the App Store app on your iPad to search your previously purchased apps.

  • If you haven't set your Slingbox up yet, the best way to do so is on Slingbox.com. If you are new to Slingbox just point your browser to www.slingbox.com using your Mac or PC and click on Set Up Your Slingbox. Follow the prompts and you’ll be up and running in no time.

  • Next, on your iPad, simply launch the SlingPlayer app as you normally would.

  • Your iPad will automatically launch in compatibility, or 2X mode, which simply doubles the size of the SlingPlayer for iPhone app to take advantage of the larger iPad screen. You can also switch to 1X mode by tapping the 1X in the lower left corner of your SlingPlayer:

  • And that's it - SlingPlayer will run in Compatibility Mode (2X) on your iPad, much like non-iPad optimized games, etc.

For the best iPad experience, though, SlingPlayer for iPad is the best bet.
