Help finding your virtual remote control with the Supported Video Sources Tool

Want to know if the video source that you've hooked up to your Slingbox has a supported virtual remote control? This tool enables you to search our database!

How does it work?

All you need to do is select your Slingbox model, and then type the make and/or model of the video source you have hooked up to your Slingbox. Click Find to start the search. If you only enter the make of the video source, another selection list appears with a list of the supported models.

Is your video source supported?

Select your Slingbox and search for the make or model of your video source.

What does it do?

The Supported Video Sources Tool looks through our database of thousands of "skinned remotes" for AV devices. A "skinned remote" is a photorealistic onscreen image of the actual remote control that you hold in your hand at home ... it contains all the buttons and functions that your real remote has. The tool looks for the exact AV device that you have. Chances are, it'll find it.

What happens when the tool finds the remote for your video source?

When the tool finds your video source listed in the results, just select it and click View Setup Info.

This opens a window that has specific step-by-step instructions for using Slingbox.com to configure your Slingbox to control your video source.

IMPORTANT—if you have a Slingbox M1/M2, do not click View Setup Info as mentioned above. Instead, after your video source is identified, download and install Slingplayer for Desktop to configure your Slingbox M1/M2 on your PC or Mac. You can get Slingplayer for Desktop from the Products page on slingbox.com.

What happens if the tool doesn't find your specific device?

If the tool doesn't find your specific device, try searching again. Note that you may wish to try searching for only part of the device's name, especially if the device has a long name, for example, Telus Scientific Atlanta IPNXYZ-ABC. Try just searching for 'Scientific Atlanta', or even just 'Scientific'.

If that doesn't work, you still have options:

  • Select Other (at the end of the drop-down list) to display a generic remote control for your type of device.
  • Specify a different model from the same manufacturer. You may see a skinned remote that looks different from yours, but it still works just fine.

Does the tool need to find your specific device?

Good question! The answer is "yes and no." Here are the possibilities:

  • The online Supported Video Sources Tool finds your specific device, so Watch on Slingbox.com … as well as SlingPlayer products that display photo-realistic onscreen remote control images … display your skinned remote control onscreen. If you see this, then you're all set!

Otherwise, there are two other possibilities ...
  • The tool doesn't list your specific AV device. During setup, you choose Other from the list of devices, and you see a generic remote control as you're watching TV with your Slingbox. While it doesn't look like your actual remote, it contains primary functions that should still be useful.

    Or ...
  • You specify an AV device similar to your own, and you see a skinned remote that looks a bit different from yours ... but it works about as well.
