Connecting my video sources to my Slingbox SOLO
A guide to what types of audio and video sources you can hook up to your Slingbox SOLO and how to do it.
Are you having trouble figuring out what all those ports on the back of your Slingbox SOLO are for? You may be saying to yourself, "Which input do I use for what audio/video source?"
Well, this article is here to help you decide what to plug in where.
Below are descriptions of the different video connections and examples of what they look like when all set up. What is cool about the Slingbox SOLO is you can connect up to 4 different audio/video sources. So, if you are interested in hooking up multiple devices, read on.
Before you begin, take a look at the back of your audio/video
source. What types of connections does it have?
If it is an HD source,
you definitely will want to use component cables (the blue, green, and red ones) for
the video. They provide the best quality video. Don't forget, even
with the terrific video quality that component cables offer, they still
carry only video signals. Once you've connected the component cables,
make sure to connect audio. Most devices use red and white analog audio cables. Some of the high-end devices use an orange cable for digital audio. Use digital audio, if you have it. Otherwise use the red and white audio cables for analog audio.
S-Video offers the next-best video quality. S-Video is the cable
that has five little pins on its connector. As with component (above),
S-video cable carries only the video signal. Make sure that you also
connect audio cables.
If your source isn't HD
and doesn't provide an S-Video connection, you can use composite video
(yellow, plus the red and white audio cables).
