Canadian Slingbox users and the SlingPlayer Guide
Version 2.0.1 of SlingPlayer for Windows introduces a new feature to Canadian users: the Slingbox Guide, an electronic program guide that tells you at a glance what's on, lets you change channels directly by double-clicking your choice in the guide, and offers a Favorites feature, so you can store the channels you watch the most.
However, Canadian Slingbox users who have already downloaded and installed SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows need to take care of a few things to make sure they have full use of this new feature.
- For Canadian Slingbox users who are installing SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows for the first time
If you've never used SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows on your computer, just install it. The SlingPlayer Setup Assistant walks you through the necessary steps to configure the software, including the setup of the Slingbox Guide.
- For Canadian Slingbox users who already have SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows installed on their computers, but don't accept the auto-update
If you you choose About SlingPlayer from the Help menu, and you see that you're running SlingPlayer 2.0 (and not 2.0.1), then you do not have the version that you need to use the new Slingbox Guide feature. If you try to access the Slingbox Guide, you may see an error message telling you that the Slingbox Guide isn't set up. You may also be offered a button to click to begin set up. However, doing this does not work.
- For Canadian Slingbox users who already have SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows installed on their computers, but DO accept the auto-update
After accepting the software auto-update, the updated software is downloaded "in the background" for you, so you can continue using SlingPlayer. Once the download is complete, you are asked if you'd like to install the software now or later. When you install the software, the installer takes you through the re-installation process that'll update your SlingPlayer software to version 2.0.1.
Once that's done, click the Slingbox Guide icon. You'll see a message saying that it's not yet set up, but when you click the button to do that, the Setup Assistant launches and walks you through it. (You'll need to set up your A/V device(s) again, but your previous choices are already chosen for you, so it's an easy process.)
Now you can enjoy the Slingbox Guide and the built-in Favorites feature.
Note: after you update to SlingPlayer 2.0.1., you may also be asked to update the Slingbox Software, the internal software that the Slingbox uses to perform its day-to-day activities. Be sure to accept this update as soon as you can, preferably when you're on your home network and the Slingbox is nearby.
