All about the lights on the front of the Slingbox

The lights on the front of the Slingbox can help with troubleshooting, as well as generally letting you know what your Slingbox is up to.

Sometimes, you'll see the lights looking differently than they do in the diagram above. Here's what's going on:

Condition What it means What you should do
The Network and Power lights are both on and not blinking.
The Slingbox is working properly, is properly connected to your network/router and is powered on. Relax.
The Sling Logo light is on.
The Sling Logo light looks like the image below.

When it's on, your Slingbox is functioning properly.

Same as above.
The Sling Logo light is pulsing steadily.

A pulsing Sling Logo simply means that your Slingbox isn't configured.
Configure the Slingbox using Slingbox.com or the Slingplayer application.

For more detailed information about how to configure your Slingbox, see the related articles to the right.
The Network light is blinking.
A blinking network light means that the Slingbox has not received a valid IP address from your router. The Slingbox needs its own IP address (a unique network number provided by your network router) to work within your home network. A quick fix: Verify that the Slingbox is connected to your router and follow that with a reset of your Slingbox. To reset your Slingbox, press the Reset button on the back of the Slingbox, then wait to see if the light stops blinking. (Note: Resetting your Slingbox will erase all settings and restore it to factory condition.)

For more detailed information about this, see the related articles to the right.
The Network light is off.

The Network light may be off for one of these reasons:

  • The Slingbox is not connected to your network/router.
  • Your router may be powered off.
Make sure that the Slingbox is physically connected to your router using the supplied Ethernet cable, or using an optional Ethernet wall plug or bridge (such as the SlingLink product). Also make sure that your router is powered on.

For more detailed information about, see the related articles to the right.
The Power light is off. The Slingbox is not plugged in or is not getting power. Check that the power supply is firmly plugged into a live electrical outlet. Also check that the connector from the power supply cord is plugged properly into the back of the Slingbox.

If the power supply is connected properly and the Power light is off, contact Sling Technical Support.
