Configuring proxy settings for safe connections through a company firewall

If Watch on Slingbox.com keeps saying that it is "Unable to connect", it could be due to a firewall or proxy arrangement that is in use on your network.

Some companies protect their networks with firewalls to prevent unauthorized entry. Proxy servers provide safe connections through a company firewall and out to the Internet.

If your office uses a proxy server, you may need to enter proxy server information to get to your Slingbox. This information is specific to your network and is only used on Windows PCs. For more details, contact your system administrator.

Configuring proxy settings

You must configure both a Service Proxy and a Streaming Proxy.

The Service Proxy is used for features such as the Program Guide and Sling Accounts. To configure, enter the following settings:

  1. Click Use browser proxy settings if you want to use the proxy settings configured in your browser.
  2. Enter the username and password that the proxy server uses to identify you, if needed.

To configure the Streaming Proxy, select the proxy setting to use when streaming your video. Then enter the requested information.

  • None.
  • Use browser proxy settings. Enter the username and password that the proxy server uses to identify you (if needed).
  • Use custom proxy settings. Enter the server address and port of your proxy server, as well as the username and password that the proxy server uses to identify you (if needed).
