Device screen goes white, switches off with no warning

What to do if you're watching your TV using SlingPlayer for BlackBerry and the screen goes white, followed by the device turning off.

You're using SlingPlayer for BlackBerry, watching your favorite TV program. Suddenly, the screen turns white. Then, with no warning message, your phone powers off. What the heck is going on?
