Troubleshooting

SlingPlayer says "Invalid Slingbox ID" when I try to upgrade the Slingbox Software on my Slingbox Classic

If the Slingbox Software on your original ("Classic") Slingbox is very old, attempts to update it may cause an Invalid Slingbox ID error.

The problem:

The Slingbox Software (also called firmware) on your Slingbox "Classic" is too old to be updated by SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows.

The solution:

  • Update your Slingbox as much as possible with the older (1.5) version of SlingPlayer;
  • Finish the update with the newer (2.0) version.

But before you can use SlingPlayer 1.5, you must first remove SlingPlayer 2.0 from your computer.

Here are the steps:

  1. Uninstall SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows. Use the Windows Add or Remove Programs control panel. Answer Yes if asked to save your SlingPlayer configurations.
  2. Download and install the previous version of SlingPlayer (1.5). The download link is on this page.
  3. Launch SlingPlayer 1.5 and connect to your Slingbox as if you're going to watch it.
A dialog box appears, asking if you'd like to configure your Slingbox.
  4. Click Yes. Follow the steps through to the Slingbox Update section. Complete the Slinbox Update process.
  5. Once your Slingbox is updated, click Cancel, quit the Setup Wizard, and exit SlingPlayer 1.5.
  6. Re-install SlingPlayer 2.0.
Note: There's no need to uninstall SlingPlayer 1.5. SlingPlayer 2.0 automatically updates your SlingPlayer 1.5 software.
  7. Launch SlingPlayer 2.0 and follow automatic prompts to update your Slingbox.

This page has links for you to download the software that you need.

SlingPlayer 1.5 for Windows requirements:

  • 1.3 GHz processor
  • Windows 2000
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 150 MB available disk space for installation
  • 24-bit graphics
  • 16-bit sound
  • Network connectivity

I have a Mac OS computer, what should I do? Unfortunately the only solution is to use a Windows computer to follow steps 1 through 3 above. Once your Slingbox is fully updated using SlingPlayer 1.5, you can then use SlingPlayer for the Mac to complete the Slingbox Software update process.
