Are you having trouble updating your Slingbox Software (firmware)?

There can be several reasons why this might be happening. Here are some things to try.

NOTE: After you check (and fix) any of the following, go back to Watch on Siingbox.com and look in the upper-right corner of the screen for a notification that a software update is available. Then try the update again.

Are connections tight?

Make sure that all connections going into your Slingbox, especially the network cable, are secure.

Firewall and anti-virus software can interfere

Remember that firewall and anti-virus software utilities can interfere with Slingbox processes, including streaming and updating. You might want to check the info that came with your firewall or anti-virus software and find the best way to disable it temporarily. Then try updating your Slingbox again. DO NOT FORGET to turn the firewall or anti-virus software back on after you complete the update process!

Try resetting your Slingbox

Be aware that when you reset your Slingbox, you must reconfigure it.

Press and hold the Reset button (on the back of your Slingbox) for about 20 seconds. Then wait for the two indicator lights on the front-right side of your Slingbox to glow steadily. (The streaming indicator light, in the center-front of your Slingbox, should not light.) Then try the Slingbox Software update again.

Are you using SlingLinks?

If the SlingLinks have a poor or unreliable connection, that can prevent your Slingbox from updating. You may need to try connecting the Slingbox to the router directly. You don't need to bring the video cables or the video device to the room where the router is--you just need the Slingbox, the Ethernet cable, and the Slingbox AC adapter.

Note: You won't get any video or audio during this setup, because your video device is not connected.

After the update finishes successfully, disconnect the Slingbox from the router and connect it the way you had it before, using your SlingLinks. Make sure both SlingLinks are connected directly to the wall outlet. Power strips, extension cords, power savers, or any other devices may interfere with them working properly.
