The most frequently asked Internet Viewing questions
- Why does my phone and my SlingCatcher have problems connecting to my Slingbox?
-
If the Slingbox setup process (using Setup on Slingbox.com, or the Slingbox Setup Assistant) wasn't able to configure your router automatically, there's a good chance of having problems watching TV with one of these SlingPlayer versions:
- SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phone (Touch Screen)
- SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Phone (Non-touch Screen)
- SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian (UIQ and S60)
- SlingPlayer Mobile for Classic Palm OS
- SlingPlayer for TV (SlingCatcher)
If you're in this situation and want to use one of the above versions of SlingPlayer, you must configure your router manually to support proper streaming from your Slingbox over the Internet.
In Setup on Slingbox.com, or the Slingbox Setup Assistant, follow the steps for manually configuring network settings.
- Why can't I connect to my Slingbox from my hotel (or other remote location)?
-
If you're away from home and suddenly you can't connect to your Slingbox, there are a few simple reasons that may be happening. Here are some things to check out:
- Remote location firewall problem
If you're normally able to connect to your Slingbox but are just having a problem when you're in a specific location, there's probably a firewall on the network that's preventing the Slingbox connection. If you suspect that this might be an issue, you can verify this by trying to connect to your Slingbox from another network (for example, over your cellular network on your mobile phone, or from an Internet cafe).
- Changes to your home network
If you've made any changes to your home network since the last time you connected to your Slingbox while away from home, that's probably the issue. After getting a new Internet Service Provider (ISP) or a new home router, you need to reconfigure your Slingbox to work on that new network. Unfortunately, if you are currently away, you will not be able to reconfigure the Slingbox until your get back home.
- Power or ISP problems at home
If your ISP's service is down, or if there's a power outage to your home, needless to say: you can't connect to your Slingbox.
- I forgot my Slingbox password! What can I do?
-
If you forget your password, the only solution is to reset your Slingbox. To do that, you'll need to be physically near your Slingbox.
To reset your Slingbox (and therefore your password):
- Quit SlingPlayer.
- Press and hold the Reset button (on the back of the Slingbox) for ten seconds (until the lights on the front of the Slingbox start blinking).
- Release the Reset button, and wait for both lights on the front right of your Slingbox to glow steadily.
Note: The center light, which indicates whether or not someone is connected to your Slingbox, should remain off.
After you reset your Slingbox, launch Setup on Slingbox.com (there's a link in the right column of this page that you can use). You'll be asked if you'd like to set up your Slingbox. Go ahead and do that, so that you can specify a new password.
