SlingPlayer for iPad says I need a firmware update on my Slingbox. How do I do that?
-
SlingPlayer for iPad requires that your Slingbox PRO-HD or Slingbox SOLO be running the most recent firmware available. Normally, your Slingbox is automatically updated as new firmware becomes available, but if you are notified that your Slingbox needs an update, just follow these steps.
Please note that we recommend that you be at home when you perform a Slingbox firmware update.
- From your computer, visit Slingbox Setup at setup.slingbox.com.
- Login to your Sling Account (if you aren't already logged in).
- Select your Slingbox.
- Click the Check for Updates button.

- Follow the on-screen instructions to updagte your firmware.
-
SlingPlayer for iPad and Watch both tell me my Slingbox firmware is out of date, but I do not see a way to update my firmware.
-
In some situations, the Check for Updates button may be missing from Slingbox Setup, even though your Slingbox requires a firmware update before you can use SlingPlayer for iPad.
If you are in this situation, it is probably because you are trying to update the firmware while you are away from home. If you access the Slingbox Setup Assistant at setup.slingbox.com while you are at home, you should be able to update.
-
Will SlingPlayer for iPad work with my Slingbox?
-
SlingPlayer for iPad will only work with the Slingbox PRO-HD or the Slingbox SOLO. If you have an older Slingbox, you need to upgrade before using this application.
If you have SlingPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch, you can use it to connect to your older-model Slingbox. See the question below.
-
Why can't I find SlingPlayer for iPad in the App Store on the iPad?
-
SlingPlayer for iPad requires iOS 4.2 or later. If your iPad is running an earlier version of the iOS, the application does not show up in the App Store for you.
To get the app, you must update your iPad first. Just connect the iPad to your computer and update the iPad software in iTunes.
-
I already purchased SlingPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch. Can I use it on my iPad?
-
Yes, if you sync your iPad and your iPhone or iPod touch to the same iTunes account. You can use SlingPlayer for iPhone and iPod touch on your iPad in Compatibility mode. However, the native iPad version of the software is built to take advantage of the larger screen and is a much better experience.
